(The Gay Bed & Break of Terror Preview)
I’ve always wanted to get a weekend away to a bed and breakfast inn, but now I’m not so sure after seeing Jaymes Thompson’s The Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror movie. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this movie. I was constantly smiling at the various stereotypical traits of this cast of characters and the consequential various stereotypical drama that was occurring throughout the film. Think But I’m A Cheerleader meets Scream but with more gore and enjoyment.
There’s a lot to talk about in the various plot twists, not limited to: the coupling of the five gay and lesbian couples and their stereotypes, the sex twists of course, the one straight friend who looked like a lost member of Heart, muffins, edible body paint, the lonely drag queen with the porno star boyfriend, the jerky boyfriend, the jerky girlfriend, the aspiring lesbian folk singer and the obsessive Right wing stereotypes who hate gays and their freaky kids, and what gets THEIR rockets off. All this because a handful of men and women wanted to go to a Blue Party and a “gay friendly” bed and breakfast inn called The Sahara Salvation Inn in the middle of nowhere and happen to be staying in a gay trap hospitality hell hole.
I found the movie to be enjoyable, you have to step back and realize that there is a lot of play into the gay stereotypes (the various sex at the pool) as well as the crazy conservative Christian ones (look for the altar and watch out for the Bibles in your rooms) and then throw some gore into the movie, some good laughs and you have THIS movie. My favorite steady laughter occurred when hot sex toy lesbian Deborah, who went to get ice for her and her ’sort of reminds me of Leisha Hailey’ indifferent girlfriend, carried that ice bucket around for 3/4ths of the movie as everyone was getting killed and still had time to kiss folk singer Starr.
The Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror premiered at the 13th annual Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival this year. It has also played at The Fire Island Film and Video Festival and will be playing at The Iris Prize in Wales, Ireland, The Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, The Pittsburgh Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and will be screening in Los Angeles on Halloween!
