Joshua Klipp got on my radar by complete accident. I found Josh via MySpace, and his looks caught my eye that I had to give it a listen. Josh is a trans singer and he has made musical history on his self released EP Patience in 2006 by singing in both his pre- and post-transition voices on the R&B track “Little Girl.” Josh has been catching plenty of eyes and ears by being featured on the Tarya Banks Show and The L Word and there’s no stopping Josh now. Josh is originally from the Midwest and currently lives in California where he works with opely gay producer, Kristopher Cloud.
(Joshua Klipp’s “Rescue Me” video)
“Rescue Me” is classic radio-worthy pop at it’s best but don’t assume this is a pop album. Klipp focuses a great deal on relationships without becoming overly-sugary or with too much overbearing conflict. “Butter” is sexy urban pop mixed with R&B - Josh Klipp is no flash in the pan. and certainly by his handsome looks and talented voice, can’t possibly be alone under the covers. “Tell Me The..”tells the story of trying to get on the same page as your lover to find out if it’s time to move on or not. Sometimes Klipp reminds me of a gay-Justin Timberlake meets Savage Garden with a little Rufus Wainwright salted in. “December Snow” and “Little Girl” has had commercial success on Sirius OutQ’s Top 20 and I don’t expect it to be the last time to see Klipp chart.
“LIFE” is so gorgeously optimistic and a moving tribute, think talent similar to George Michael without all the personal problems, and is my favorite track that is remixed. The album includes two jazz songs (”Summertime” and “My Funny Valentine”) and seals the deal that Josh Klipp is one artist who deserves breakout commercial success. I’m beginning to think there’s nothing that he can’t do and that he’s simply unstoppable.
