Janet Jackson’s music is always considered somewhat autobiographical at conception, and no matter what her reasons are for singing her music, Discipline is one hot record. We were given a special sneak peak a few months ago for “Feedback” and we knew then that we had to brace ourselves, Janet was back and she’s not playin’. Janet brings everything that makes her music tight: the dance groove, the open, unapologetic sexuality and the tenderness when she opens her soul and sings.

Something I’ve always enjoyed about Janet’s albums is her ability to tell a story every album, with a consistent theme and her progression as a artist. Discipline lives up to it’s name and Janet seems to be applying it to all areas of her life. “Feedback” is the current hot dance single out for Janet right now and puts Janet right back where she belongs: on top.

“Luv” is what it says it is, about being caught up in love written in the ‘caught up in a wreck’ metaphor. “Rollercoaster” is extremely pop though could easily be remixed into a good summer dance single. “Rock With U” had to be a direct song from Janet to the LGBT community because it’s completey club marketable, sexy and fun. Janet is one of the true artists in all of the music industry completely fearless and unapologetic for her sexuality in her music and her love for the gay community. “Can’t B Good” is sensual Janet about putting your guard down, and trying to stop protecting yourself and allowing yourself to feel love. This is one of my favorite tracks on the album and I hope won’t be completely underestimated.

“Never Letchu Go” is another possible major hit for Janet on this album, it’s fresh yet something I would have expected to come out five years ago and done well for her. “Greatest X” will work for anyone who still has a good relationship with their ex and turns into a confessional how feelings are still there. “The 1″ featuring Missy Elliott is simply dance/pop/hip hop wild, kinky musical threesome about sex, and it’s fun, confident, bold and memorable. There’s something Missy Elliott brings to the table that really adds to a song and I can’t imagine anyone else contributing on this track.

Closing out the album is “Curtains” and with the appropriate title with the appropriate double-meaning words: “house lights go low / spotlight up more / it’s time so just sit back and enjoy the show.” Janet brings a fun, danceable, sexual and sensual album on the scene with Discipline and for hardcore and dedicated Janet fans or ones who want to discover Janet, this is one to be remembered from one of our favorite rulebreakers.
