8 Questions with Yelle: ‘Enjoy Life’

Yelle

We sat down with Yelle this week to discuss her music, her current US tour promoting her successful album, Pop Up, her gay fan base, what turns her on, and more:

Bambi Weavil: Yelle, we think you’re magically delicious, hi! Your US tour kicks off in Dallas this week and you’ll be everywhere all over the country for the next two months. What can fans expect to see on this tour?

Yelle: I’m very excited to begin this tour in the US! We do a real live show. There are three of us on stage, with GrandMarnier playing the drums and Tepr the keyboards. It’s a real rock and electronic live show because we have a rock energy and we try to mix the songs like in a DJ’s set. And we hope the public is ready to dance and have fun at our shows!

Yelle – Pop Up

Yelle – Pop Up

Yelle Pop-Up album cover
I first heard Yelle unknowingly at a dance party when “Je Veux Te Voir” came on and bodies started dancing all around me. That wasn’t the last time I heard that song and every time I heard it, I always wondered who it was.

After figuring it out, I listened to Pop-up in its entirety. The first song starts off with a catchy pop tune full of whistles and hand claps. The album title appropriately describes the sound you’ll hear for the next 50 minutes, but don’t let the electro bubble gum pop fool you. I almost wrote the album off thinking the whole appeal of Yelle was that it was just generic pop with French lyrics, until I really listened to what she had to say.
