The Places – Songs for Creeps

The Places is made up of Amy Annelle from “panhandles/plateaus/ponds” and plays “Acousmatic Tape Music”, as her MySpace page describes.
Songs for Creeps starts off with a collection of many different sounds on “Miners Lie!” with Annelle’s comforting voice steering us through the song. Annelle’s songs take us on a ride, and there are so many things to hear along the way. Take for instance, “The Natural Arc,” which feels like a long wait for a train ride that starts off slow and builds into a fast, churning locomotive with a rhythmic low-tuned acoustic strum.
Solange – SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams

Solange (Knowles) released her second album in stores today, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, and I don’t feel she’s out necessarily to compete with the pop stars of today. She isn’t your typical pop star, and that’s a good thing. She doesn’t sound too commercial, she sounds more like a jazz/Motown throwback with a hip hop twist.

both deeply haunting and profoundly inspiring: “Her words cut so sharply and

a gross understatement.” Her long anticipated poetry book, Pole Dancing To Gospel Hymns, is filled with rich, intimate imagery and her personal styling can capture your breath and move you in a way that shakes and stuns you.
Nautical but Nice: Classy, Erotic, Sexy and Philanthropic

Recently, we got to speak with the creator of Nautical but Nice, Captain Sara, for a in-depth interview on her mission of being the premier purveyor of the nautical and aeronautical pin-up and drawing their inspiration from the lovely dames painted on the noses of B-29 airplanes during World War II and the 1950s pin-ups gracing the wooden decks of luxury boats. Classy, erotic, and sassy – we couldn’t resist wanting to find out more about Nautical but Nice which has a unique non-profit goal….
Captain Sara: “My idea was to mesh female sexuality and power in a way that didn’t alienate either gender, and I think there’s a pin-up revolution doing just that. Examples of female sexuality tied in with submission or dominance are rife in the “adult entertainment” world, and I wanted there to be some other images of female sexuality that aren’t tied to any role in particular… other than playfulness (if that’s a role). It’s naughty! And nautical! But nice.”
