“WHY US? LEFT BEHIND AND DYING” is a new film that shows a small group of inner-city African-American teenagers who decide to explore the reasons why HIV rates are disproportionately high among black people. It takes courage: there is a terrible stigma around HIV in the black community.

These teens wanted to be the researchers; not just the researched.  So the filmmakers became facilitators; stepping back and allowing the teens to ask their own questions – of heterosexuals, homosexuals, intravenous drug users, public health experts, and scientists.

The teenagers in this film are from Homewood, an all black section of Pittsburgh. They were students at Westinghouse High School — academically, one of the lowest rated schools in that city.
