Melange Lavonne – The Movement

Melange Lavonne – <i>The Movement</i>

Melange Lavonne is an African American, female rapper. She is also an openly out lesbian. She describes her music on her MySpace page as “Christian Rap” and also identifies herself as a Christian. The songs on her album, The Movement, touch on real issues that are often not talked about. The album opens with “Gay Bash” in which she outright calls Christians who hate on homosexuals hypocrites. This song brought a smile to my face because everything she said were things that I wish more people would stand up and say.

There are few artists out there that I would want to risk my personal funds on, but if there was one that I would invest in, it would be Shannon Curtis. If the amount of times I’ve listened to her six-song album is any indication, she’s going to be someone I’m going to personally be talking about for a long time to come. She has completely charmed me into 100% endorsement. This is the contemporary pop/jazz artist I’ve been waiting for since Norah Jones and Vanessa Carlton.
