From The OUTSideIN:  President Perfectionist

by Soul Dancer

Welcome to the first in a series on evolving micro managers into macro leaders.

You’ll notice this series is a bit different in format.

How different?

Imagine one of those balancing scales where you place weights on one side, and something else on the other side. On our side of the scale, we’ll offer a few thought provoking questions in each article to help you jump-start some insightful thinking. Kindly add your answers to your side of this scale.

PLEASE share YOUR wisdom with us at OutSideIn below in our comments section!

Our first four topics focus on what I’ve coined the Consumption Committee. Do you know some members of this committee?

  • First, we’ve President Perfectionist supported by Vice-Chair: Constant Criticizer.
  • Next, there’s Secretary: Judge n’ Jury.
  • Finally, don’t forget Treasurer: Lack Vernacular.

As we deepen our awareness of these traits, we’ll naturally uncover ways to dissolve micro-managing anything or anyone. Time to focus on President Perfectionist.

Question 1: On a scale of 1 – 10 - how do you rate various people who have some sort of managerial control over you?

  • 1 = totally NOT a perfectionistcan flow with anything.
  • 10 = total perfectionistwill DIE a 1000 deaths if they can’t control EVERYTHING

(Based on your rating, take a couple minutes to notice if you’ve attracted similar folks into your life. Ever notice how like attracts like?)

Question 2: What do you sense flows just below the perfectionist surface?

  • Low self esteem?
  • Fear of failure?
  • High degree of competitiveness?
  • Other stuff?

What do you come up with?

Question 3: How have you successfully helped someone who both:

  • micro manages and
  • swims in the perfectionist pool

discover how to get out of that pool before they drown?

As YOU provide insights to these questions, we’ll begin to tap into an ocean of AMAZING wisdom. Help us all out will you?! I’ll add to the mix as we hear back from you.

How do you add to this mix? Post your feedback below.

Next time, we’ll focus on how micro managers seem to win first prize on in the Criticizer category. Until next time, I look forward to seeing your posts on this topic.
