Happy Houred: Find Drink Specials, Hot Spots and Get Your Drink On!
by Bambi Weavil
When your life is scheduled and structured with time and convenience at optimal performance and priority, Happy Houred couldn’t come at a better time when you are ready to get your drink on! Meet Lindsey Johnson, the fun and fab creator of Happy Houred, a new iPhone app that helps you find the drink spot you desire in your area or when you travel, with specials, reviews, photos and more.
Bambi Weavil: I don’t know who doesn’t love a good Happy Hour. And you offer the app for free – can we buy you a drink?
How did the creation of Happy Houred come about?
Lindsey Johnson: Honestly, Happy Houred was created because I couldn’t find a drink in Kansas City. I was out there for a gig, and at the end of the day, I wanted to find a spot to get a quick drink, maybe dinner, but I had no idea where to look. My iPhone was certainly helpful in finding a list of bars, but I had no idea what I was getting once I walked through the doors. So, I got to thinking about how I could take it to the next level, and incorporating happy hours was such a natural fit. Because there’s nothing better than drinking, unless you’re drinking for less. Oh, and I’m happy to get a drink anytime you want!
BW: I love how you the app leaves nothing left for guessing – from being able to search by distance, by type of bar, down to the type of beverage – to more advanced features for registered users – being able to see photos, rate and read reviews! What has the response been so far from patrons and establishments alike?

LJ: We’ve had a huge response on both sides. Users are adding bars by the hundreds every day, which is really exciting. We have an amazing amount of coverage in places like the Twin Cities thanks mostly to one superstar user (thanks WoodNymph!). Bars aren’t just adding their specials, they’re actually promoting the app- whether it’s in house (big thank you to Cantina in San Francisco, Victor Tango’s in Dallas, and Clive Bar in Austin, TX) or through social media. I’ve read at least a dozen tweets from different bars that love and use the app.
BW: What are some of your favorite happy hour spots that you partake in?
LJ: It’s so hard to pick favorites! My block in Brooklyn is happy hour central. Across the street, we have Brooklyn’s longest happy hour over at Soda, and around the corner is James, site of my favorite happy hour. They do this $7 gourmet burger and half off cocktails from 5-7 on weekdays. Beautiful spot, great food, and, of course, tasty beverages. Last happy hour I enjoyed was at Copa D’Oro in LA. They have this killer half price cocktail menu all night on Mondays.

BW: What has been one of the unique specials you’ve seen so far?
LJ: Bars have all kinds of crazy happy hours. My favorites are the ones that have a free ______ with purchase. I’ve seen everything from manicures to comedy shows.
BW: How has the gay bar response been?
LJ: Already, we have over 200 gay bars listed, and we’ve been getting a steady stream of new ones every day. The best part is: gay bars seem to all have the best happy hours. One in Austin, Texas holds the records for the most happy hours at one place to date with 38, but you’ll have to download the app to find it!
BW: So far you feature 11 major cities, any upcoming cities being rolled out?
LJ: Since the launch of the app two weeks ago, we’ve seen our database grow to over 200 cities, and we encourage you to add your city if it’s not already in there. All of the data is user generated, and we’re putting our team of happy hour experts on the cities that have users already adding bars.
BW: What is your drink of choice? Can we make it a double?
LJ : I usually drink my whiskey neat, but I’m definitely a cocktail nerd too. Bring me something brown, bitter, and stirred, and I’m a very happy girl.
BW: Everyone likes being able to save money and with that money, can be donated to non-profits and causes. What non-profits and causes are you passionate about?
LJ: We are huge fans of Wine to Water. Anyone who can turn drinking wine into clean drinking water for others gets my endorsement.
BW: Thanks Lindsey, we love this app! Download Happy Houred, and to submit your bar visit: http://happyhoured.com/submitbar.php. Cheers!!
