Olga Hernandez: Handmade Jewelry To Fight Breast Cancer
by Bambi Weavil

We recently sat down with Olga Hernandez, a long-time friend and supporter of Out Impact. Olga resides in Canada and is multi-talented and speaks to us about her passion of making jewelry to help fight breast cancer every year:
Bambi Weavil: What inspires your art?
Olga Hernandez: My mother has inspired me to make jewelry. I would always sit with her and watch her make her jewelry pieces. I never thought I had it in me to do such beautiful work. She drew me in and that is when I realized it was a hidden talent I had from her.
BW: How long have you been creating art?
OH: Honestly not too long, for about 1 1/2 years now.
BW: Do you have a green policy?
OH: It is very difficult to remain green when making jewelry, but we do our best to incorporate an environmental consideration and in resources.
BW: What material do you use to make your jewelry?
OH: I never realized how many aspects it takes to make jewelry. I always wondered why my mother had so many shelves full of stuff. (laughs) In learning, we use several tools such as, many different types of pliers, many storage containers which hold the beads, stones and findings, and screwdrivers to name a few.
BW: What non-profits do you support?
OH: We currently support The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure for our Breast Cancer Awareness items. I selected this organization because they have helped my Aunt Blanca during her struggles with Breast Cancer.
BW: What are ways people can purchase your jewelry that help partially benefit The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure?
OH: We are currently offering four handmade breast cancer awareness jewelry pieces that my mother has made. We are also offering two bracelets, which include a unisex bracelet that allows men to also support breast cancer awareness. A new awareness item we added this year was 2 watch bracelets: 1 silver toned and 1 gold toned. They all can be purchased at http://www.ourspiritualconnection.com/store.html.Partial proceeds will benefit The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

BW: My personal favorite is the men’s/unisex bracelet which I own. Do you have a favorite?
OH: Well I love all the pieces (laughs), but yes my favorite is the silver toned Breast Cancer Awareness watch.
BW: What other projects are you working on?
OH: I currently run an online advisory company called Our Spiritual Connection which is an online community for spiritual advice. People can browse through our wide range of advisors which are ready to offer you accurate caring advice. You may use our “Live Advisor Messenger” to connect with the advisory of your choice and chat in real-time.
BW: Thank you Olga for your time and I hope everyone checks out your beautiful jewelry for a great cause at http://www.ourspiritualconnection.com/store/!
