Janeane Garofalo: From A Spinal Shot to Rachael Ray

At the intimate Comix (353 West 14th Street), the premier comedy club in Chelsea in New York City, we caught Janeane Garafalo’s special headlining four-shows comedy performances on April 4-5th. The setting is the perfect place to not have a bad seat anywhere in the house, and Janeane is in her strongest element in front of a sell-out crowd where she can make eye-contact with a appreciative audience.

Janeane has a stream of intelligence and witty consciousness comedy improv quality to her work, she can connect so much to one leap off one topic, starting with, a visual of her spine procedure where she needed a steroid shot in her back for relief (no Baseball Hall of Fame for her, not even a visit), and branching off into how 9/11 was a inside job, Republican bullies, her new role in 24, and torture policies. The audience was extremely supportive but Janeane spotted someone at a VIP table not enjoying themselves and proceeded to ask them why they were at her show. The following night, Janeane found another VIP patron in a football jersey claiming to be from a major network to watch her show who kept nodding her head that she was not going to give a good report. The crowd however, loved Janeane and cheered at any slam against the current administration.

Janeane acknowledged that she had heard she was #3 on Yahoo buzz, how everything is YouTubed and how TMZ felt they should film her walking in LA as if her walking is buzzworthy. Janeane quipped on Rachael Ray’s “YUM-O!” and how Rachael over enjoys everything, which just has to be witnessed to be appreciated.

Janeane’s comedy which sustains relevance in pop culture and politics, and requires your full attention span to not miss in every nicely tucked in joke, is highly recommended when Janeane is in your area or when you are in New York City, for a fun evening at Comix for dinner and drinks.
