Transgender in Himalayan Art
(beginning at 6pm and 6:30pm.—limited capacity)

In early Indian Buddhist art, the universal depiction of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is male. How then does this deity transform over a 500 year period from male to female form within Chinese Buddhism? “Transgender and Transformation” will explore the artistic redefinition of gender in the history of Buddhism.
