GLAAD Announces Open Call for Art Submissions to 7th Annual OUTAuction NYC

OUTAuction NYC To Showcase GLAAD’s Top 100 Artists and Honor Best Emerging Artists

New York, NY – October 02, 2008 – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) will host the 7th Annual OUTAuction NYC to celebrate emerging and established artists, presented by Bud Light and Deutsche Bank, on November 23, 2008 from 5pm – 9pm at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion.

Playwright Edward Albee and actor Alan Cumming will serve as Honorary Hosts of the evening.

Emerging artists can submit work to be considered for GLAAD’s 2008 Top 100 Artists via www.glaad.org/outauction2008 by October 15. Those chosen as GLAAD’s 2008 Top 100 will have their pieces in OUTAuction NYC’s silent auction and will be eligible for the GLAAD Best Emerging Artist Awards in three categories: Mixed Media, Painting/ Drawing and Photography. They will join last year’s winners An Xiao, Miya Ando, and Mark Feldman.

Winners of the GLAAD Best Emerging Artist Awards will be chosen by OUTAuction NYC 2008’s Arts Advisory Committee which includes the Herb Ritts Foundation. 2007’s committee also included Irene Shum Allen, Ross Bleckner, Anton Ginzburg, Ryan McGinness, Patrick McMullan, and Wessel+O’Connor Fine Art.

OUTAuction NYC will also include a live auction featuring L’Ange, 1960 (Marc Chagall/Robert John Russo Gallery) and Riker Twins, Los Angeles, 1996 (Herb Ritts Foundation). Last year’s live auction also featured work from Pablo Picasso, Steven Klein, Ryan McGinness and Jordan Eagles. Art collectors interested in donating a piece to be considered for the live auction are asked to contact GLAAD.

The evening is sponsored by Bud Light, Deutsche Bank, American Airlines, Clos Du Bois and W Hotel as well as media partners The Bleu Magazine, GO magazine, GENRE, HX Magazine, TheMenEvent.com, and The New York Blade.

“GLAAD is proud to provide additional visibility for emerging artists – both LGBT and our straight allies at OUTAuction NYC,” said Neil G. Giuliano, President of GLAAD. “We hope that showcasing works of legends like Herb Ritts will encourage emerging artists to be inclusive of the LGBT community in all forms of art.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the 7th Annual OUTAuction NYC Web site (www.glaad.org/outauction2008). General tickets are $125 and VIP tickets are $175.

The public is invited to preview works that will be displayed at this year’s OUTAuction NYC beginning October 21 at the W Hotel (1567 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10019) at an exhibit in the White Space. The exhibition will be on display from 10/21 – 11/14.
