Sadie – All Natural Me

by Bambi Weavil

sadefromnaturalme Sadie All Natural Me

We recently sat down with the ever-amazing Sadie, creator of AllNaturalMe.com and on etsy! Sadie discusses what inspires her art, her karma kards, why activism is very important to her, environmentalism and more:

Bambi Weavil: What is the art scene like where you’re from? How did you get into making art?

Sadie: The art scene from where I’m from is so minimal, there really isn’t even a scene to get involved in. It’s in pretty sad shape. There are artists, yes – but they are so under-appreciated in our local area. I honestly don’t even consider myself an artist. Of course, that might be because I despise labels of all types so I really wouldn’t put myself into any specific category.

BW: Are the karma cards that you include with each order handmade? What is your story behind the karma cards (we dig the thought…)?

S: Each Karma Kard is completely made by hand. I’ve always had the desire to spread the word about good things like helping the environment, living naturally and being positive. I also like to promote independent artists, small companies and non-profits that work so hard to make change. A collaboration of cards like the Karma Kards brings all these wonderful folks and information together. After I magically connect them together with some handy dandy string, they can easily be shared with others and passed on to friends to help spread the word and good karma!

BW: What other non-profits do you support? How important is activism to you?

S: Activism has always been a huge part of my life. I think I was only 10 when my mom took me to protest against a proposed landfill incinerator so I learned at a young age that you don’t have to sit back and let big business get away with their dirty work if it’s truly not good for you. I certainly knew how to say NO!!

As I got older, my interests were more into the YES!! side of activism with getting people inspired to be good to themselves and others around them. I’m a non-profit junkie – I’ll support anyone promoting good things, especially the environment. Presently my favorite non-profit is one with humanitarian initiatives, The Prem Rawat Foundation, online at tprf.org.

BW: You have a major green mantra with your art – how did you get involved in being more environmentally aware with your art?

S: Being green with the things I make goes hand-in-hand with the fact that I have trouble throwing anything away that could be used again. If its life cycle isn’t completely exhausted, it just seems right to reuse it. There’s no other way for me.

BW: You may have the most beautiful reusable cloth toilet paper sets I’ve ever seen, I love the recyclopes themes and I love the hot sauce emergency bag! Do you have any particular favorites?

S: On the allnaturalme etsy shop, my favorite thing to make are the bags with the goddess appliques, although what could be more satisfying to find than pretty butt wipes. And my favorite Recyclopes are actually ones that I’m not really aloud to post online because they are repurposed from old porn mags. Hey, they are fun and even smut needs to be recycled!

BW: What inspires your current work?

S: Me. No really, I’ve been heavy on the self-challenges lately. Even kinda silly things like putting myself up to the task of seeing how much of my fabric stash I can sew up before a certain time and just to finish projects from start to finish. I’ve also been tending to those around me so a lot of my current work gets given away to folks I love. Random acts of kindness and putting more positivity out in the universe are two guys who keep knocking at my door.

BW: Do you have any current projects coming up that you can tell our readers about?

S: I’ve been working on a huge project for almost 9 months now, it’s called Baby # 3 and it’s due to come out around the 8th of December. I expect it to be a beautiful mixture of pain and bliss that will probably interfere with all my other projects for a few months until I remember how to juggle again.

BW: We’re also huge fans of your site, All Natural Me. How would you describe your site to our readers?

S: If I had to pick two words, I’d go with honest and fun. I try to promote serious environmental issues by making them clear and interesting to all folks but I especially like to target those who frankly, may not really give a shit about being green. Sometimes I’m not the most gentle eco-prophet, but it’s time that people pull their heads out of their waste-holes and realize that ignorance is no longer bliss and their life is contributing to a huge impact on this Earth. But if I get too condemning, I try to wrap it up by reminding everyone (including myself) that our influence in our world can certainly be a positive one of love, light and peace.

That’s typically also the moment when I really appreciate my sweet lovie Dreg for making all the Naturally Us Comics that people enjoy so much. Because really without all the humor and beautifully illustrated comic relief, I think my approach might be a little too much for people at times. Maybe.

BW: What are some of your favorite artisans?

S: I really should honk the horn some more for Dreg and his amazing graphic design skills that have taken All Natural Me to a much cooler level than I could’ve on my own, so I will – beep beep!

Other artisans that I just love today include Jenny Harada, June Moon, Amy Steinberg and all my talented Mama friends on Etsy.

BW: Leave us with a favorite quote – whether it be from a song you’re listening to or someone who has inspired you…….

s: “and when i am alone and full of fear
i just remember the rising sun always appears
everyday miracles that i see
well they take me back to exactly where i need to be”

~ Amy Steinberg
