La Roux’s Retro Fun: “Quickand” and “In For The Kill”

by Bambi Weavil

I’m very much a child of the 80s and for ladies and fellas like me, we want our retro fix every now and then.  La Roux, one of UK’ biggest musical sensations comprising of Ben Langmaid and cutie Elly Jackson (and they are just old enough to drink by American standards!), mix electro-pop, uptempo beats and synthesizer skills that seemed influenced by Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, and Annie Lennox, more than today’s dance music.

“Quicksand” has a hypnotic addictive yet almost spaced-out electrotribal feel to it.  Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey remix of “In for the Killis like a electroballad, a chilled version of Annie Lennox meets Ethero type song.  I’m looking forward to hearing their full release, I think in this Age of Lady GaGa, La Roux is going to find a place in clubbers and Top 40 fans’ hearts.
