I love Semi Precious Weapons, they are loud, they are FUN, they are bold, unapologetic and they are everything glam rock and roll should be. This is a band worth getting really excited about.

I love Semi Precious Weapons, they are loud, they are FUN, they are bold, unapologetic and they are everything glam rock and roll should be.  This is a band worth getting really excited about.

Semi Precious Weapons is frontman and lead singer Justin Tranter (”Precious”); guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan; Cole Whittle (bass) and Dan Crean on the drums from New York City.  Tranter is considered the ringmaster of the group, and also dabbles in being a artistic creator including his successful jewelry company, Fetty.

This album is meant to be enjoyed all at once to get the full effect.  “Magnetic Baby” is pop/rock catchy narcissism (”tell me something I don’t know”), while the song “Semi Precious Weapons” has the best line of all:  “I can’t pay my rent, but I’m fucking gorgeous!”  There is nothing shrewd or tame about Semi Precious Weapons.

There is plenty of punk rock to go around like the chanting “Her Hair Is On Fire”, while one of the more subdued tracks is “Time Zones” to bring the fever pitch down.  They are risky (give “Jesus” and “That’s Kunt” to hear why), they are sexual (”Taste”), and they remind us all that rock and roll can still make us feel (and leave us) hot and bothered, angry, partying and unmistakeably passionate.  No matter how you box them up or what glam you glorify, Semi Precious Weapons are undeniably talented and their rawness makes me a believer.
