Mark Ronson Version album cover

Mark Ronson is one of the hottest producers today, and gives us a non-stop party of hip hop, funk, pop and jazz on Version with some of the world’s biggest talent from all different pools of music. The caliber of talent on this album is amazing, and yet, there’s no overshadowing going on on this very progressive record.

“God Put A Smile Upon Your Face” full of horns and drums, in what could only be classified as a funky, soulful British thriller, that it’s hard to believe this was originally a Coldplay song. “Oh My God” brings to your attention the talented Lily Allen, in musical excitement and panic. The cover of Britney Spear’s “Toxic” really grew on me, with the hip hop, jazzy sultry featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Tiggers that it would be a mistake to not market it as a radio single. One of the hottest musicians this year is Amy Winehouse, putting her name on a record is surely going to help anyone’s record right now. Her contribution with “Valerie” really surprised me in a good way and would be another good choice for a single.
“Pretty Green” for all standard purposes reminded me of something that I heard on the But I’m A Cheerleader movie. Not that it’s a bad thing, but it’s impossible for me to remove the comparison in my head. “Amy” works in a very nostalgia way, it’s very easy-going nature makes it a nice smooth track. “The Only One I Know” with Robbie Williams is a addictive, funky track that Robbie made his own, this song really stands out in the winner’s circle of hits on this album.

This album is being well recieved in the UK, but deserves to have airplay in the United States. Mark delivers on a very enjoyable record, putting a smile on my face and this should be a staple for your music collection this summer and for years to come.
