There’s something soul gripping in both a fierce and vulnerable way about L.P.’s music.  She’s rock and roll for sure, but she could easily crossover into some pop appeal.  She’s the type of artist that can win over a audience with just one song, and if the teaser out for her upcoming third album is any indication, she’s already won me over.

Extremely open lyrics with alternately howling and rough-edged vocals, openly gay artist L.P. has drawn comparisons to Joan Jett, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Chrissie Hynde, and Gwen Stefani.  She has worked with the go-to rocker/producer Linda Perry and Cracker’s David Lowery.

The opening single and video, “Good With You”, is theatrical without being unrealistic, 1000% passionate, kick open the door honesty and completely catchy.  “Cling To Me” with it’s powerful strings and rock and roll glory, I can hear a strong semblance to Pat Benatar and of course, Linda Perry.

Another song of notice from her MySpace is the pop glazed with rock flavoring in personal favorite, “Motherfucka”, where the Gwen Stefani/early No Doubt comparison makes complete sense.  I don’t know anyone who shouldn’t hear this song or this artist, for that matter.

Other past releases featured on her MySpace from her Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol release in 2004, which featured a collaboration with Linda Perry, include “Suburban Sprawl,” and “Wasted.”  I can hear the Perry influence in both tracks, both are great rock songs with the toughness and vulnerability that makes L.P. an incredible talent.  This woman just wants to sing her ass off and bring the music to the people, and be prepared for her to pack rooms to see her and watch her do what she does best.
