Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster

by Georgie Pendragon

The Fame Monster released on Nov. 23rd, 2009 , Lady Gaga’s (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter) re-release of The Fame plus a cd’s worth of new material written while on tour experiencing actual fame, has become a monster of achievement. The first single “Bad Romance,” Gaga’s fifth number one is a menace of sound and language, that picks you up by the assaulted senses and drops you like a satisfied stone after the 4:52 minute ride is done.

The song “Speechless,”  the tale of Gaga convincing her father to have open heart surgery to save his life leaves your heart wrenched beautifully…in concert when she sings the line “Some men may follow me.. but you chose ‘death and company’ “.. .she halts dramatically at her piano, stares at the crowd.. close her eyes and then double-fisted , flips off the very idea of death.  The crowd roars its compliance.

“Dance In The Dark’” is Madonna, Vogue-esque with it’s strong central rap, featuring the unapologetic likes of princess Diana and Jesus references.  “Telephone’” (feat. Beyonce) is a high-tech complaint against an annoying pursuant. “Teeth” is a sexual stomp, “Got no direction, just got my vamp..take a bite of me” is an alarmingly candid song,  in the best way possible. The 22-song compilation, leaves one breathless and in love with you own tail and horns and scales, i.e. whatever makes you uniquely you.

Many of Gaga’s ‘little monsters’ (a term she affectionately uses to describe the throngs of her uber-loyal global audience..) received The Fame Monster for Christmas. As I noticed on Twitter, they received it many times over. ‘Monsters’ that were tweeting in-between opening their presents, would open the initial gift of The Fame Monster with sheer excitement, which lasted right on through to their fifth opening of the same present. “It’s all I got!” many shouted with glee.

Gaga fans are loud about their love and devotion, those around them do not fail to notice. Being a genuine crowd of sweethearts, they would next tweet to make sure all of their friend’s had gotten a copy too, and would share accordingly with those less fortunate.

Lady Gaga’s album IS the ultimate gift, for not only does it come with jewel box, and lyrics liner… it also comes with acceptance and a cause to stand up for. Yourself. Your inner monster, unleashed. Gaga, the artist, is what we have needed forever, an open, infectiously intelligent, brazen force that leaves no one behind.
