American Idle

eMpulse (MySpace) is the brainchild of DJ Reed McGowan (Facebook, Twitter) from New York City. All songs written by Reed, with the collaborative efforts of co-producers Matt Moss, Finbarr Massi, Warren Rigg, Richard Morel, Quentin Harris and more. The project is a unique blend of dance genres and an aural snapshot of pop culture & politics. The subject matter is a brutal and cathartic epiteph of modern life, an electronic slam on society.

With “American Idle”, Reed hopes the conversation and dialogue will start happening in the gay and music communities, about getting our priorities in order and what we all can do to change the world and affect positive change and get out of the “me, me, me” self-serving culture.  Lyrics such as:

“POP SMEARED LEGACY, HIP HOP CULTURED EFFIGY
FAST FOOD LETHARGY, SUPERSIZED OBESITY
PS3 NINTENDO WII, OVERLOADED CIRCUITRY
SEX AND X-BOX, LET US SEE TV BASED REALITY
FASHIONISTA LEPROSY, CASH & BLING & JEWELRY
LIVIN LIFE IN LUXURY, KATIE AND TOMFOOLERY
DRASTIC SURGERY TO MATCH THAT PLASTIC PERSONALITY
CELEBRATE & INFLATE SUPERDUPERFICIALITY
PURCHASED POPULARITY, EVERYONE IS VIP
DISREGARD THE POVERTY, EVERYTHING IS ME ME ME”

challenge us all to BE more.

My favorite mix is “American Idle (Original Subversive Version)” that sounds like a marching army of change.  Purchase American Idle featuring 10 different mixes of the single on ITunes!

Don’t miss Reed playing  RISE (a fun raiser) @ Cielo (18 Little West 12th Street) on September 20th, 2009 from 9-3a in New York City. For this party, the spotlight will be cast on Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Making the public aware of these important organizations will help with the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is October. Representatives from Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will be at the event to hand out information and sign people up for their newsletter.  For more information check out the Facebook invite!  We are a proud media sponsor of this event!
