Emanuel And The Fear Are All Alright Tonight

Emanuel And The Fear (Facebook, MySpace) an 11-piece orchestra-rock band  from Brooklyn, NY, released their self-titled EP this past Fall to critical acclaim from Village Voice and The L Magazine. This band is worth getting excited about.  Mixing rock and pop with classical orchestra elements, especially in the surprisingly heavily mixed, “Jimme’s Song”, whose focus is “don’t wanna do nothin’ but be in a rock band,” these guys are onto something.  The acoustic “Comfortable Prison” could easily turned into a country song about modern day frustrations with the job market.  “The Rain Becomes Clouds” (which is also the featured video above), is pop/rock at it’s purest, that reminds me of The Postal Service, with our favorite poetic lyrics of the song: “pushing life into our bodies / and bring motion towards a difference.” “We’re All Alright Tonight” brings the orchestra-rock element into play like no other song in the album, and could easily be the signature sound of this band.  “Two” starts off with gentle piano, but drives toward instrumental chaos and the close of  this great EP. We may be projecting a bit, but a live album as a third release would be incredible, and we wouldn’t complain about a DVD release either.  Emanuel And The Fear is simply good stuff.
