2008 was one of the most controversial years for Britney Spears.  She started the year with a shaved head and would go through having 5150s placed on her well-being, rumors of losing custody of her children, dating a paparazzo, being place in the hands of her father who became a conservator, allowing a documentary to tell her story and then releasing a new album titled, Circus.  With 2009 just mere days old, it’s safe to say that 2008 ended a whole lot better than it began.

Circus is a twelve track album with Spears writing three songs on it: “MMM Papi”, “Mannequin”, and the most beautiful song on the album – “My Baby.”  The most famous track on the CD thus far is a song entitled “Womanizer”. The album is a very dance-beat CD and I’m sure is one that is constantly being played in dance clubs throughout the world.

It is Britney’s fifth number one album and that’s five out of six albums reaching the top spot on Billboard 200.  The album sold over 505,000 copies in the first week in the United States.  This propelled Britney to becoming the only act to have sold 500,000 copies or more of four different albums.  Think about that…she is the ONLY one to have done that.  This is something that Elvis, The Beatles and Michael Jackson have NEVER done, and no one else has either, for that fact.

My favorite songs on this album are: “Womanizer”, “Out From Under” and “My Baby”.  “My Baby” is a beautiful song that was obviously a song Britney wrote for someone special in her life,  and I’m thinking her two children.  There is only one song that I absolutely do not like and that is “Blur.”  “Blur” is just one of those songs that you just don’t like and as soon as the CD player shows the track’s number, you automatically skip it.

There is no doubt in this reviewer’s mind that Britney Spears, professionally, is back and back with a vengeance.  Circus is her best album since her very first one.  Personally, I hope she continues to succeed and keeps the bad people that she once had in her life out of it because they did nothing but try to tear her down and she doesn’t need that.

I wholeheartedly recommend this album.  Go get it TODAY!
