Air Traffic’s Fractured Life, their debut album, is introspective, mood-driven, and brilliantly creative indy rock and roll. This band from Bournermouth, a Wessex border town on the British Costa Geriatrica, and their sound and chemistry is so complete that I wouldn’t have believed this is their first collective album together.
“Come On” builds onto itself, a musical fire rich in piano, declaration and rock and roll, that spreads in confidence and the perfect way to kick off this album. “Charlotte,” indy rock rioting at it’s best, with the sexually charged and catchy lyric: “Yooooouuuuur face (my place)” and the clever juxtaposition of love, “I’m independent but I’m tied to you” and this is the perfect radio single to represent their music.
“Just Abuse Me” is one of the best-written songs on the album, compact and close quarters with “It’s as if you’ve come along too soon / And I’m trying to fit you in but I can’t seem to find the room.“ “Shooting Star” is simply gorgeous, and the perfect follow-up to “Just Abuse Me”, which seems to be about the same lover.
The tribal drumming with the accompanying piano in “No More Running Away” shows artistic passion of Air Traffic, about facing the situation at hand, simple message and musically outstanding. Another major hit waiting to happen is the gorgeous “I Can’t Understand” which has a John Lennon/Coldplay feel to it. The conclusion of “Fractured Life” is “Your Fractured Life” which is surely a song to be experienced at their concert with the audience singing along and feeling the desire to not be let down by someone else, together.
Forty-one minutes of contemplative, indy-rock emotions of intensity, this is album worth your time that will leave you stirring and wanting more.
