Black Aura on an Angel – What Keeps You Connected?

by Bambi Weavil

Black Aura on Angel DVD cover

Black Aura on an Angel produced, written and starring Faith Trimel, with Sherry Richardson and Debra Calloway Duke asks the question, “can you lose yourself?” After watching this movie, telling a darker side of a lesbian romance, the answer should be “no the hell you shouldn’t!”

The focus of this movie is between Angel (Trimel) and Phaedra (Richardson) intensity overshadowing love and perspective. Both are very believable at all times and both are really able to take the viewer on the emotional journey with them. Phaedra has very visible demons to deal with, and though they are obvious to everyone as they revealed within the relationship, and is outwardly noticeable including to a psychic friend of Angel’s, Angel chooses to ignore her advice and faces the consequences.

The pacing is perfect for the hour long movie, and you can truly see the complexity within this time frame. I also like the weaving of the psychic/tarot reader, who saw the black aura of Phaedra’s and tried to warn her friend. Black Aura on Angel is based on a true story, and though you can truly feel for everyone involved: Phaedra’s lack of love persona, Angel wanting to be what her name is and them wanting to work it out, it should definitely be a great reminder that love and unhealthy infatuation can lead to extreme consequences. Trimel is a talented storyteller and I look forward to seeing more of her work in the future.
