The Big Gay Sketch Show is a traditional half-hour comedy show featuring original characters and satires of pop culture with a unique gay perspective. The talent on this show is incredible and Logo is sitting on a gold mine and one of the best things that ever happened to the network. The writing is strong and witty, with each episode having popular sketch character power, the way Saturday Night Live used to.

I have a very guilty pleasure when it comes to my TV viewing schedule, and it’s The Big Gay Sketch Show. The Big Gay Sketch Show: The Complete Unrated Second Season, comes out on April 29, 2008, available on LOGOonline.com and other fine retailers, is a must for every BGSS fan and anyone who is even remotely curious to why this show is a hit.

One character is the satire of the ever-popular gay icon, Liza Minelli, turning into Super Liza who helps the gay community with singing, dancing, calling upon Mama and Mr. Bubbily himself. The Big Gay Sketch Show also likes to interpret classic TV, such as The Facts of Life, impossible not to touch from a lesbian perspective, is hilarious for the girls who wondered all about the sexual tension between Jo and Blair. Another celebrity interpretation I never expected was Maya Angelou, by cast member Colman Domingo, reading listings from the popular craigslist!

The best sketches on the show highlight the ‘regular’ life of being gay, such as two lesbians (Kate McKinnon and Julie Goldman) who sit in a lesbian bar and asking the inevitable question of “which one?” every minute of the conversation depicting the past drama and lovers. Another character worth mentioning is Ron Odyssey, protrayed by the eccentric Stephen Guarino (who also has a trademark role as Chad Michael in “Logo Life Tip” with cast member Jonny McGovern), who is hilarious in every customer service situation you see him in from airport customer service and again later at at “the Bob Hope Bing Crosby Ronald Reagan Joey Heatherton International National Airport Car rental Speedy Service Convenience Center.”

My favorite character on The Big Gay Sketch Show happens to be from my newest crush, Kate McKinnon, in her protrayal of Fitz William. Fitzwilliam, a British transgendered boy, in every sketch has two qualities: he wants a “first-rate” vagina more than anything in the world, and he has his unicorn, Trixie by his side. I need a whole season of Fitzwilliam sketches because it’s such a dream character to watch.

The Big Gay Sketch Show, a important tier in Logo programming, should be a collection you should pick up on DVD set (along with Season 1) which includes a bonus disc featuring behind the scenes sketches and reels, cast and crew interviews, what would happen if it were The Big Straight Sketch Show, and a Julie Coleman Celesbian Interview special.
