Bridget McManus

Last week we interviewed the very talented and out comedienne Bridget McManus in preparation for her much anticipated appearance in Durham, North Carolina on August 22nd at Club Steel Blue.  Bridget discussed with us some of her favorite interviews on Brunch with Bridget, what Baby Bridget means to her, lesbian cruises and what the can’t miss sport of the Olympics is!

Bambi Weavil:  Are you on any big comedy tours currently or upcoming? We’re really excited that you’re coming to North Carolina this month! The North Carolina ladies love you. Have you been to NC before? What can the NC ladies expect to see at your show on August 22nd at Club Steel Blue?

BM:  I visited North Carolina with my high school show choir when I was 16 years old. I LOVED North Carolina and I’m really excited to go back. I’m currently developing all new material for my second 1 hour show entitled, HOLD STILL I’M ALMOST DONE, premiering at MBAR in Los Angeles on December 4th at 8pm. In preparation for that show I will be performing new material at Clue Steel Blue on the 22nd so the ladies of North Carolina get to see and hear the jokes first.

BW: Fans of your work on AfterEllen are wondering if you will you be releasing any outtakes on DVD or move Brunch with Bridget to DVD? Can you say, ka-ching?

BM:  The outtakes are a little too risqué so I doubt I’ll be releasing them to respect my guest’s privacy. Let’s just say it’s a good thing Brunch with Bridget isn’t filmed in front of a live studio audience.

BW:  What have been some of your favorite interviews to date on Brunch with Bridget? Personally, we enjoyed your interview with Eden and Elizabeth from Imaginary Bitches.

BM:  Eden and Elizabeth, the beloved BAM girls, were fabulous! They came to play and didn’t hold anything back. I adore both of them personally and professionally. Also, Elizabeth Kenner from the The L Word was a terrific guest. She is a freakin’ nut job and I LOVE her! And I can’t forget the Spashley girls, Mandy Musgrave and Gabrielle Christian. Let’s just be honest, whenever cute girls make-out or have a pillow fight it’s going to be a good time.

BW: How long have you had Baby Bridget?

BM:  Baby Bridget was my birthday present to me last October. She’s a blessing in my life but she’s not easy to live with. I barely sleep with the stream of women constantly coming in and out of Baby Bridget’s bedroom at all hours of the night. I wish I had half the game that Baby Bridget has.

BW:  What upcoming projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

BM:  This fall I will be guest starring in a web series for Warner Brothers called JONI & SUSANNA premiering on theWB.com. I’m also hosting a self help show called THE JAM on Peoplejam.com, which launches at the end of August.

BW:  What non-profits do you support or are close to your heart?

BM:  Every year I participate in the Los Angeles AidsWalk and every year I cry when I cross the finish line. It’s shocking that in 2008 we still haven’t found a cure for this horrible disease.

BW: We noticed you were in Wanted, how was it working with beloved Angelina Jolie?

BM:  I did meet Ms. Jolie very briefly. She was lovely and very professional.

BW:  What do you think is the biggest misconception about you?

BM:  I didn’t realize there were misconceptions about me! What are people saying? The thing that shocks me the most is when people say that I’m “hot.” That sounds crazy to me. I’m just a dorky girl from Connecticut who has always had weight problems and grew up talking to myself while eating tuna fish sandwiches.

BW:  Are you going to watch the Olympics this year? If so, any particular favorite sports?

BM:  I LOVE the Olympics. I’m a big fan of the diving. I remember watching the 1988 Olympics and seeing Greg Louganis hit his head on the diving board. Like so many others I screamed aloud when I saw it. Then the news wouldn’t stop showing the replay over and over again. I can’t imagine what his family though in that moment. He’s a true athlete. GO TEAM USA!!!

BW:  Is the hype justified on lesbian cruises?

BM:  I recently just experienced my first lesbian cruise in France via Olivia Cruises. I thought there was going to be drama and topless chicks everywhere. Instead, I had a great time, great food, great entertainment and bonded with lesbians from all around the world. What’s better than that?!?!

BW:  Is there anyone you’re wanting to work with professionally that you haven’t?

BM:  I’m setting my sights on working with Will Ferrell. He’s hysterical and a generous performer who appears to have no ego. Just by watching his work, you can tell he’s a team player, which I think is an ideal characteristic in a costar.

BW:  What’s your drink of choice?

BM:  I’m a coffee fanatic and I can’t stop! I drink 3 to 4 cups a day. I even drink a cup of coffee right before bed to calm me down. Is that odd?

BW:  I can relate, coffee is a life saver!  Thank you Bridget for your time, and we look forward to seeing you in Durham!  For more on Bridget McManus, check out her MySpace, her work at AfterEllen.com and her hilarious blog Comedy Double Standards!
