CHARACTER VS. REAL LIFE:
Degrassi: The Next Generation’s Adamo Ruggiero Talks To Out Impact About His Gay Character and How It Impacted His Own Coming Out
July 24, 2008 (New York, NY)— Out Impact, the popular website for gay men and women, recently spoke to Adamo Ruggiero, who plays Marco on Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian-produced series seen in the U.S. on The N Network. Ruggiero talked about his coming out in the media in the past year and how it’s similar to the gay character he plays on the show.
The interview, conducted by Out Impact’s Bambi Weavil prior to Pride in Toronto in June, touches on several issues related to coming out and being in the public eye. Among the items the interview touches on are:
· How his parents dealt with his coming out
· How his own coming out compares with that of his on-screen character
· The media reaction to Ruggiero’s coming out
· His advice to teens about the coming-out process
· Gay life in Canada
