Hip Tranquil Chick: Loving Yourself Fully

“to love yourself is the beginning of a lifelong romance” ~ oscar wilde

welcome to a month focused on love and filled with yummy carnation hearts, chilly weather, and whispers of adoration. i like to think of self-love as an underlying theme for february. even if you don’t have a valentine, love can still be your focus this month by encouraging the focus inward. as a favorite julia cameron quote suggests, “there is a direct connection between self-nurturing and self-respect.” ensure you’re loving yourself fully this month by engaging in oodles of self-care.

Hip Tranquil Chick: Five Holiday Tips For Tranquility
Monday, 8 Dec, 2008 – 13:57 | No Comment

Holiday gift suggestions: to your enemy, forgiveness. To an opponent, tolerance. To a friend, your heart. To a customer, service. To all, charity. To every child, a good example. To yourself, respect. — Oren Arnold

The holidays are in full bloom: festive tunes play everywhere, lights are on display, and Santa look-alikes welcome holiday shoppers. Now is the perfect time to reflect on the reason for this special season, and to set an intention for the holidays. Just as we start our yoga practice with an intention, start your holidays with one: think of a person or cause to send love to, ponder a quality you wish to cultivate, or an action you wish to take. Rather than approaching the season with an exhausted list of to-dos, let this year be different. Light a peppermint-scented candle, draw a bath full of epsom salts, and play some of your fave holiday tunes. Take some time before the rush overcomes you to reflect on the year and honor this season of giving through these five holiday tips for tranquility:

Hip Tranquil Chick: Reflection
Monday, 3 Nov, 2008 – 9:26 | No Comment

Here is a excerpt from our Hip Tranquil Chick, Kimberly Wilson’s latest column:

“We need not learn Sanskrit or recite the list of yamas and niyamas . . . Rather, we can regularly ask ourselves these questions: Who am I becoming through this practice? Am i becoming the world in which I wish to live?” – Donna Farhi, author of Bringing Yoga to Life

Bonjour from an old farmhouse in the hills of Virginia. I’m here working on my second book, Tranquilista: a girl on-the-go’s guide to a mindfully extravagant life (due out December 2009) while overlooking the James river and amazing fall foliage. While multi-tasking on my living yoga column for a local paper, I came across the above quote and decided to make it the basis of this month’s muse. Taking yoga off the mat has been a strong theme over the years at my yoga studio, Tranquil Space, so I want to elaborate on what that may mean for you in your everyday, busy, Blackberry-toting lives.

Hip Tranquil Chick: CreativiT + VersatiliT + SimpliciT = TranquiliT by Kimberly Wilson
Friday, 10 Oct, 2008 – 22:48 | No Comment

Check out Kimberly Wilson’s latest column, Hip Tranquil Chick, in the Health, Spirituality and Wellness section on OutImpact.com! Here is a excerpt:

While sitting at the Ritz Carlton listening to Eileen Fisher speak, I came up with a 3-part “ditty” to describe my eco-friendly clothing line, TranquiliT. When pulling together my thoughts for this month’s muse, I thought that this motto would transfer perfectly to daily life. Aren’t we all searching for an ongoing dose of creative expression, flexibility, and ease? Below I’ve outlined the ways in which we can use these three concepts to have more tranquility in our everyday life. After all, don’t we deserve it?

1. CreativiT – I love this quote by Coco Chanel: “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Creative inspiration constantly surrounds us. Keep your journal nearby to jot down inspirations. Carry a digital camera to capture visual inspirations. Sign up for a knitting class. Take a tango class. Wear red lipstick. Put on your favorite tunes and dance around your living room. Write with a pink pen. Listen to birds sing.
