Kerry Politzer is a nice change of pace. Her record, You Took Me In, is optimistic and lovely and every time I hear it, I can’t help but feel better afterwards. “Always” has a rock/ska/old school R&B flavor to it, that would be the perfect song to define happiness that I really enjoyed and what a great way to bring in “You Took Me In.” “I Hope You Find Me” could be a gentle pop dampened lightly with jazz song on a movie soundtrack, Kerry’s voice is really soothing and she is as good as anyone on radio today. This song stays with you and is one of her strongest songs on this album.
“Love Is In The Atmosphere” is another optimistic jazz, pop and R&B song that has Kerry enough to feel like a throwback into the past but completely contemporary. Just as you’re getting comfortable with Kerry’s beautiful jazz and pop voice, she goes into some rock and roll with “I Cried Wolf.” Multi-dimensional, beautiful and Kerry is clearly influenced by music instead of by genre categories. “Joseph” didn’t connect with me and seemed a gentle country/folk song.
“I Would Give The World To You” could be sung by a male or female voice and I’d like to see this as a male/female duet at some point for a live recording. The instrumentals are jazz, and they are well done, but this could easily be a pop record if Kerry decided to go in that direction. One of the reasons I love this artist is she’s risky and just records good music.
The main impression I get of Kerry is she’s enjoyable. You can unwind to her after a hard day, she can perk you up as a good as a cup of coffee and she’s fun to listen to. Kerry should record a live album and consider testing the waters outside of jazz, she can clearly go anywhere with her talent and she’s definitely going somewhere.
