Connecticut singer/songwriter Jennifer Taylor sings with intensity and undeniable talent, with her second album, A Different View. Natural comparisons drift off to the Melissa Etheridge buoy, and though many get compared to her, Taylor could hold her own with her building accoustic rock that by the time you finish the album, you want to play it again. “Center Stage” opens up the album about relationship sacrifices and what will it take to be the priority. Her voice has the unique quality to sound good on a recording but I’m convinced that her voice is even better live. “A Different View” would be interesting if she would try a acoustic version with just her piano accompanying her, but the track itself is strong and introspective.
“Do You Wonder” is just one of the many examples of Jennifer Taylor’s strong vocals and honest songwriting and is one of my favorite songs on the album. “For What It Is Worth” is apology of realizing it’s time to move on and turn the corner, not something you hear said so beautifully lyrically and full of emotion as well as Taylor demonstrates throughout the abum. “Even If” is proof to anyone who wants to put her in a box, because she takes on a ballad full on, and is one of the best kept secrets of Taylor’s charm. The last track, “To Be Back There” could be released on country radio, and it’s simply about knowing what matters in life and keeping home close to your heart no matter where you are–even if you can’t go back. Taylor is touring the Northeast heavily, and after hearing this album, deserves center stage.
